True heroes don’t need protective gear

Poland. True heroes don’t need protective gear (Collection «Big pandemic«)

Illustration of events 2020 — 2021.

The idea and aim of the mural in Warsaw, in my opinion, is to turn people’s attention to the difficult and sometimes heroic role of doctors in the fight for human lives — most people only see and appreciate this when they are confronted with an illness, get sick themselves or their loved ones fall ill.

New year, new rules

USA. New year, new rules. (Collection: «Big pandemic»)

Illustration of events March 2020 — January 2021.

I spent New Year’s Eve 2021 in the United States of America, in New York. I was very impressed by the masked Nutcrackers guarding the Christmas tree in Manhattan.

All the forces of the world stood united in a moment to fight the big pandemic. My childhood heroes are not an exception — and probably not only my childhood heroes — the Nutcrackers. They are called to set an example of observance of quarantine norms and rules, hiding their faces from society behind medical masks.

One last look at the peaceful sky

Ukraine. One last look at the peaceful sky. (Collection «Big pandemic»)

Illustration of events March 2020 — January 2022.

This topic is particularly close to my heart, as I myself live in Kyiv. Many people in Ukraine have fought the Coronavirus not only with medicines, social distancing and self-isolation, but they have also used folk remedies, which are depicted in this picture.

After 24 February it is all a thing of the past…

The work began hours before the missiles were fired on my homeland. This is the moment in which I captured the view of the peaceful sky outside my window of my home in Kiev. The moment when the «Rocket» means a food delivery service. The moment when the winter lazy sun shines in the peaceful sky through the threatening February clouds, when everybody lives in plenty, and where the main enemies of viruses on the tables of ordinary Ukrainians are tasty, but maybe not so healthy, foods.

So far this is the last painting in the series. Working on this collection has been interrupted because of the war which broke out in Ukraine…

I am planning to paint at least 5 more pictures for the collection with the hope that I will be able to accomplish my plans.

The Goddess of Mercy will save the world

Japan. The Goddess of Mercy will save the world (Collection: «Big pandemic»)

Illustration of events 2020 — 2021.

At some point of the pandemic, a lot of people have begun to realize the world and themselves in it differently, their place in cosmic evolution, the great importance and significance of religious norms and ethics and their thoughts and behaviour. I think that in order to direct the consciousness and thoughts of millions of people towards mercy and kindness, Japan has put a mask on the world’s largest statue of the Buddhist Goddess Kannon, the Goddess of Compassion and Mercy.

Flying epidemic

China. Flying epidemic. (Collection: «Big pandemic«)

Illustration of events 2019-2020.

Fear has gripped the world. Fear in the eyes of all humanity — fear of sickness, fear of death, fear of being isolated, fear of losing someone. A huge world, a huge metropolis and this small creature that seems bigger than the whole world.  I have tried to capture the sense of fear that millions of people around the world felt when the pandemic began. An intense fear and great dread settled in the minds of most of the world’s people with the onset of pandemic COVID 19. Many in the media called it the plague of the 21st century. The masked regime, social distancing and self-isolation have become the basis of everyone’s life. Without a mask is like without a passport.
