Sakura. A symbol of spring in Japan. Their petals, which are much thinner than paper, are so delicate that they sway in the breeze and fly in the wind. Even though they are so delicate, bloom so much that we can’t see the branches. Sakura is a kind of cherry blossom. In English, the word “Cherry” refers to the fruit, but in Japanese, the word “Sakura” refers to the flower.

The western ray of the setting sun at the end of a short late autumn day. The sun suddenly emerged from behind the clouds at sunset and illuminated the vase of chrysanthemums standing on the table for a moment. It immediately sparkled with magical colours and seemed to hang in the air, supported by this ray. And the grapes, which I had managed to lay out on the table to make a sketch, began to radiate an unearthly glow. It was one of those rare moments of inspiration when the brushes paint themselves and the colours fall exactly as you intended from the very first stroke. After experiencing such moments, you realise that time is a relative concept. I painted this picture in two days.

Chamomile is a symbol of purity and tenderness, a drop of sunshine on earth, a smile of nature, a gentle embodiment of summer and joy. You can write a thousand more such epithets and still they will not convey all the charm, purity and, at the same time, simplicity of this flower. That is what I have tried to depict in this painting. And besides it is still the main flower on which guess on the beloved (loves-not-loves), tearing off the petals. And the proof of love can be found in the only surviving petal of the chamomile, after all the others have been torn off.

Radiant palette, vegetal ornaments, hidden magic of sunlight — the eternal image of the blossoming tree of life of Petrikovsky painting. Tree of Life — as a symbol of transformation of chaos into space, embodies the traditions of cultural heritage of our ancestors. Seven generations — symbolises the combination of energy centres and is depicted by the motifs of the Petrikovsky painting plant ornament. Petrikovsky painting reflects the spiritual unity of man with nature and proclaims the idea of cyclical life. Petrikovka painting, or as they say ‘petrikovka’, is a folk decorative and ornamental painting that originated in the Dnieper region in the village of Petrikovka, which gave its name and was the origin of the art itself. Historically, Petrikovka painting comes from mural painting, which was most widespread among rural houses. Since antiquity, in addition to decoration of dwellings, the painting of chests and a wide range of consumer items made of wood and other materials became widespread, which began to develop, spread, acquire new features and turn into modern painting. The phenomenon of Petrikovsky painting is a combination of bright colours, magical shapes and sunlight, and their transformation into a deep symbolism of folk art. The Second Final Exhibition ”Creativity and Taste of Generations“
The painting is a participant in the art exhibition ‘Creativity and Taste of Generations,’ which took place at the Maria Zankovetska Museum in Kyiv from 21 June to 4 July 2025. The exhibition was the result of the second selection competition within the framework of the art project ‘Mosaic of Ukrainian Heritage,’ created with the aim of reviving, preserving, and popularising the multifaceted cultural heritage of Ukraine. The project was organised by the Art Fine Nation art agency.
The painting is a participant in the final exhibition of paintings from Wanda Orlova’s authorial art project ‘Mosaic of Ukraine’s Heritage,’ which tells about Ukrainian culture, traditions, and values. The best paintings by contemporary Ukrainian artists who participated in the exhibitions of this project during 2025 were selected for the exhibition on a competitive basis.

I don’t know what the scientific name of this cactus species is, but it is popularly known as Night Beauty. The cactus shoots out a long shaft from its body, up to 20cm long and 1.5cm in diameter, which blooms into a beautiful flower up to 15cm in diameter with a delicate fragrance. The flower begins to bloom in the evening and blooms and fragrances for only one night. As the sun rises it fades. This year, the cacti on my windowsills bloomed especially abundantly. And one gave out three flowers at once, which opened at the same time. It is impossible not to capture this beauty on canvas. How great it is to convey the fragrance with colours!

Summer is coming to the end and, as always, it leaves us with many gifts — different vegetables, fruits and, of course, flowers. Sunflowers are my favourite summer flowers — very bright and beautiful, which lifts the mood. They are always looking at the sun, and the sun is reflected in them.
