A little more — and flowers on the trees…

The painting continues my collection ‘War in Ukraine’. And the main theme in it is the hope for dawn after a long, long night, which is evidenced by the flowers ready to blossom on the trees and a blossoming tulip on the ruins of a house. And the first rays of the rising sun are already visible on the walls of the empty and ruined houses.

I painted this picture in the format of an art battle organized by the Ukrainian art association Art Fine Nation. The competition was called ‘Paint me a poem by Lina Kostenko’. The artists chose a poem from those proposed by Art Fine Nation and an art pair of artists who chose the same poem. Then, for 10 days, the pair of artists painted paintings (each of them their own) on the theme of the poem. The paintings then took part in a selection competition, and the winners will be presented at the collective exhibition in Kiev.

A little more, a little more –
and the flowers on the trees will bloom,
and the will fly around like a rhizomes’ dream.

War paints watercolour paintings with blood.
Its palette –
is the ashes of fires.

Its landscape –
is the ruins of neighbourhoods.
Empty streets are faded pastels.

Unless some tulips suddenly sprout somewhere
through the groaning rubble.

St Anna’s Hospital in Lviv

I was in Lviv on a business trip. Every time I go there, I can’t stop admiring the architecture of this ancient city. This time, assuming that I would have some free time, I took some drawing materials with me. And for good reason. I didn’t need to go far. I lived in the historical part of Lvov, just opposite this building.

A secret rendezvous. On the canals of Venice

I will never forget my first impressions of Venice. You seem to be transported to another time: unique architecture, paintings, music, food and romantic air make this city the romantic capital of Europe. In Venice, any realist becomes a romantic.

Sunrise over Kiev. Heavenly symbols

I painted this picture a week after the war started. At that time we were even in the sky trying to see some kind of clue. After painting this picture, I came up with the idea to create a collection of ‘Heavenly Signs’, which depicts the consciousness’ perception of the surrounding world in a critical situation

Niagara river. The great power of water

It’s not ‘just a lot of water’ — it’s really a lot of water, an entire full-flowing river, wide and powerful, with clear blue water, framed by rocky steep high banks with periodically dense vegetation, then falling down a horseshoe-shaped cliff with a powerful waterfall, demonstrating the majestic power of the water element. I was enthralled by the unforgettable sight. This journey will be remembered for a lifetime.

It is truly a magnificent sight! The power, strength and beauty of the waterfall — a natural element — is mesmerising! A storm of emotions! I tried to convey my impressions from visiting this unique and very beautiful place on this picture.

Firemans Memorial Park, Ridge, NY. A walk in the…

IIt’s a pity that you can’t capture the smells in a painting. The smell of the forest, the smell of pine and oak trees cannot be compared to anything else. But the crystal transparency of the air with a light haze in the distance, the warmth of crisp wood, which adds a special colour to the park, was remembered by the canvas in every stroke.

The hinterland just outside of New York City on Long Island. American lodges are all similar to each other, but very different from other parts of the world. The lifestyle, culture and traditions are very different from ours. Travelling it is impossible not to depict the American dream in an airy watercolour.

A courtyard in Germany. Cleanliness and German order

A typical farmstead in northern Germany (Province of Schleswig-Holstein). While on a business trip, I saw this courtyard while driving by in my car. It was impossible not to stop. It appealed to me very much and I decided to paint it on paper with watercolours.
