«The Mosaic of Ukraine’s Heritage” is an art project designed to revive, preserve, and popularize the multifaceted cultural heritage of Ukraine.
Four art contests give every artist the opportunity to discover and demonstrate their creative potential at exhibitions in Ukraine and abroad.
The result of the contests will be a unique collection of paintings that reflects the beauty and richness of Ukrainian culture, telling the story of Ukraine — its culture, values and traditions — through the language of art.
5 conceptual art exhibitions that will attract the attention of the public both in Ukraine and abroad. They are all connected by a single idea — to show that Ukrainian cultural heritage is alive and relevant.
The project «Mosaic of Ukraine’s Heritage» consists of four art competitions with final exhibitions and the final exhibition «Mosaic of Ukraine’s Heritage».
Each art competition consists of two thematic smaltas (parts of the «mosaic») and is held within a specific timeframe.
Each smalt is dedicated to a single topic of Ukrainian traditional culture.
Following the results of each competition, an exhibition of the created works is held, and at the end of 2025, the final exhibition of the entire cycle is held.
Each exhibition is accompanied by a competitive selection of paintings created by its participants!

A little more — and flowers on the trees…

The painting continues my collection ‘War in Ukraine’. And the main theme in it is the hope for dawn after a long, long night, which is evidenced by the flowers ready to blossom on the trees and a blossoming tulip on the ruins of a house. And the first rays of the rising sun are already visible on the walls of the empty and ruined houses.

  • Art Battle Challenge
    Diploma of the winner of the qualifying competition and participant in the art exhibition dedicated to the anniversary of Lina Kostenko, ‘Draw Me a Poem,’ an author’s project by Vanda Orlova.

I painted this picture in the format of an art battle organized by the Ukrainian art association Art Fine Nation. The competition was called ‘Paint me a poem by Lina Kostenko’. The artists chose a poem from those proposed by Art Fine Nation and an art pair of artists who chose the same poem. Then, for 10 days, the pair of artists painted paintings (each of them their own) on the theme of the poem. The paintings then took part in a selection competition, and the winners will be presented at the collective exhibition in Kiev.

A little more, a little more –
and the flowers on the trees will bloom,
and the will fly around like a rhizomes’ dream.

War paints watercolour paintings with blood.
Its palette –
is the ashes of fires.

Its landscape –
is the ruins of neighbourhoods.
Empty streets are faded pastels.

Unless some tulips suddenly sprout somewhere
through the groaning rubble.

Chamomiles. Little suns in a vase

Chamomile is a symbol of purity and tenderness, a drop of sunshine on earth, a smile of nature, a gentle embodiment of summer and joy. You can write a thousand more such epithets and still they will not convey all the charm, purity and, at the same time, simplicity of this flower. That is what I have tried to depict in this painting. And besides it is still the main flower on which guess on the beloved (loves-not-loves), tearing off the petals. And the proof of love can be found in the only surviving petal of the chamomile, after all the others have been torn off.

I was in Lviv on a business trip. Every time I go there, I can’t stop admiring the architecture of this ancient city. This time, assuming that I would have some free time, I took some drawing materials with me. And for good reason. I didn’t need to go far. I lived in the historical part of Lvov, just opposite this building.

The Tree of Life. Seven generations

Radiant palette, vegetal ornaments, hidden magic of sunlight — the eternal image of the blossoming tree of life of Petrikovsky painting. Tree of Life — as a symbol of transformation of chaos into space, embodies the traditions of cultural heritage of our ancestors. Seven generations — symbolises the combination of energy centres and is depicted by the motifs of the Petrikovsky painting plant ornament. Petrikovsky painting reflects the spiritual unity of man with nature and proclaims the idea of cyclical life.
Petrikovka painting, or as they say ‘petrikovka’, is a folk decorative and ornamental painting that originated in the Dnieper region in the village of Petrikovka, which gave its name and was the origin of the art itself.
Historically, Petrikovka painting comes from mural painting, which was most widespread among rural houses. Since antiquity, in addition to decoration of dwellings, the painting of chests and a wide range of consumer items made of wood and other materials became widespread, which began to develop, spread, acquire new features and turn into modern painting.
The phenomenon of Petrikovsky painting is a combination of bright colours, magical shapes and sunlight, and their transformation into a deep symbolism of folk art. The main element of Petrikovsky painting is a flower — a symbol of beauty, richness and lushness of nature and blossoming life; the bale — as a symbol of Ukraine — in the painting acts as a symbol of female beauty.
The tree of life in Petrikov painting is a simultaneous combination of the symbol of creation, immortality, wisdom and protection with the image of the paradise blossoming tree of life, which blossoms together with folk art and continues to please the eye for centuries, glorifying Ukraine and its masters.

The painting is a participant in the art exhibition ‘Creativity and Taste of Generations,’ which took place at the Maria Zankovetska Museum in Kyiv from 21 June to 4 July 2025. The exhibition was the result of the second selection competition within the framework of the art project ‘Mosaic of Ukrainian Heritage,’ created with the aim of reviving, preserving, and popularising the multifaceted cultural heritage of Ukraine. The project was organised by the Art Fine Nation art agency.

The painting is a participant in the final exhibition of paintings from Wanda Orlova’s authorial art project ‘Mosaic of Ukraine’s Heritage,’ which tells about Ukrainian culture, traditions, and values.
The best paintings by contemporary Ukrainian artists who participated in the exhibitions of this project during 2025 were selected for the exhibition on a competitive basis.

The rich Ukrainian national cuisine has not bypassed Slobozhanshchina (eastern Ukraine) with its diversity, especially its preparations for Easter.
Easter — the Bright Feast of Christ’s Resurrection — is the greatest feast of the Christian faith, the summit of the whole liturgical year of the Church.
It is Easter that preserves culinary traditions and transmits their unique flavour combined with the traditions of Orthodoxy.
And one of the most important moments of waiting for Easter is the completion of the Easter basket for the consecration of food, so that then at the Easter table with the whole family to consume the consecrated food.
Products in the Easter basket of Slobozhanshchina, although similar to products of other regions, but have their own mysterious meaning, because each product is a symbol.
Krashanki (painted boiled eggs) is a symbol of new life, and Sweet Kulich (Easter cake) is a symbol of Heavenly Bread.
An important product in the basket both on the material plane and in the spiritual plane is salt.
Slobozhanshchina’s Easter basket should contain something meaty, such as gretchaniki (meatballs with buckwheat) in tomato sauce, greens, and also vareniki (curd or fruit dumplings) in a pot, which are best combined with sour cream.
Branches of blooming lilacs are not only a colourful decoration of the basket, but also serve as a bright guide between the atmosphere of the bright spring holiday and the historical traditions of Easter flavours of Slobozhanshchina.

Hansen miracle village. Praying hands

The statue of the Hansen Ukrainian Mission Foundation’s emblem is located in a village for elderly people and refugees near Kiev. The settlement is called ‘SENIOR CHUDO VILLAGE’(Chudo means Miracle in Ukrainian). Doing good is already a miracle, like all the goodness inherent in this project.
